Givairo Read remains an intriguing name on FC Bayern’s wish list. But although the Munich club continues to rate the Dutch right back highly, there are currently many factors working against a transfer this summer.
With the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, FC Bayern has already completed its most important summer transfers. Nevertheless, club officials continue to monitor the market closely. One player who is still considered an interesting option internally is Feyenoord’s Givairo Read.
As BILD soccer editor Christian Falk reports, however, a potential move is not currently being held up by a lack of interest, but rather by the record champions’ current transfer strategy. According to this strategy, sporting director Max Eberl must first generate revenue through player sales before further signings are possible.
“Max Eberl still faces the same problem: He must first sell players before he can look for new signings on the transfer market again. Otherwise, as we already know, Givairo Read would be an extremely interesting option for FC Bayern Munich,” said Falk.
Another sticking point, according to Falk, is the personnel situation at right back. With Josip Stanisic, Sacha Boey, and Konrad Laimer, Vincent Kompany already has several options. Laimer, in particular, is expected to extend his contract after the World Cup and remains firmly in the plans.
“The same goes for Read. If FC Bayern can’t sell a player in the right-back position, this will have significant implications,” Falk continued.
Then there’s the transfer fee. While Feyenoord Rotterdam is reportedly asking for around 25 million euros—a sum that would generally still be within the budget—Falk points out that the price could rise quickly if Bayern Munich enters the picture.
This is another reason why the Munich club is currently focusing on other priorities. According to the transfer expert, the record champions are continuing to closely monitor the market for center backs. This also explains the recent speculation surrounding Augsburg’s Chrislain Matsima.

“It’s important to remember that FC Bayern is also keeping an eye on the market for center backs, which explains the recent rumors surrounding Chrislain Matsima of FC Augsburg.”
Read thus remains an interesting prospect for FC Bayern. However, as long as no players are sold and the club’s management prioritizes other areas of the squad, the race to sign the 20-year-old Dutchman is unlikely to gain momentum for the time being.
