Flamengo have been shortlisted for the 2026 Ballon d'Or Club of the Year, with Arrascaeta, Danilo and Saúl reacting with pride. The ceremony is in London on 26 October.
According to Coluna Do Fla, France Football named the nominees on Tuesday 8 September, and the club shared a video of the trio’s responses. Arrascaeta, a captain with Bruno Henrique, called it global recognition and a privilege and said fans should feel proud.
Danilo, who scored the goal that secured Flamengo’s fourth Libertadores, recalled joining after leaving Juventus and praised a project that goes beyond minutes on the pitch to grow the brand. He said seeing the crest on such a stage brings pride and sets a reference.
Saúl said the nomination shows the club are doing things well and laying foundations for the present and future, adding that everyone must stay on course because they want more.
PSG, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Bodo/Glimt are also in contention. The judging period runs from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026, when Flamengo won the 2025 Copa Libertadores and the 2025 Brazilian title.
Filipe Luís’s side also lifted the Derby das Américas and the Challenger Cup at the Club World Cup, then lost the final to PSG on penalties to finish runners-up.
The award weighs more than trophies, with performance, defining moments, overachievement and fair play also assessed. Flamengo fans have extra reason to tune in, with Real Madrid forward Vinicius Júnior in contention for the top prize.
