Arsenal are considering a move for Brest defender Raphael Le Guen, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants short-term cover for William Saliba, who has been ruled out for several months due to injury.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on a couple of defenders and could look to bring Le Guen to the club.

However, the Gunners will face competition fro Crystal Palace and Fulham for the 6ft 6ins French defender.

New Palace manager Pierre Sage knows the 19-year-old from his time in Ligue 1.

However, a move to Arsenal could be more appealing despite him agreeing personal terms with the Eagles.

Arteta would prefer to sign a more experienced centre-back, with Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah on his radar.

However, signing the England international duo has proven tricky and a move for Le Guen could be on the cards.

His major strengths are winning aerial duels, intercepting and blocking the ball, but he does not have plenty of experience having only started playing professionally last season.

The Arsenal target made six Ligue 1 appearances and would likely be a long-term signing.

A move to the Premier League could appeal to Le Guen as it would give him a chance to show the senior national team what he is capable of doing.
