According to Nice-Matin, AS Monaco will not extend the contract of goalkeeping coach Frédéric De Boever in June, with the parties set to part at season’s end.
The 45-year-old Belgian joined in January 2022 as one of Philippe Clement’s assistants. He stayed despite the Flemish coach’s sacking in June 2023.
Adi Hütter, Clement’s successor, did not bring a goalkeeping coach, so De Boever was retained under his existing deal.
Despite modern methods and high demands, Monaco’s goalkeeping performances have underwhelmed for several seasons, particularly since Danijel Subasic left in 2020. Under De Boever, Alexander Nübel, Radoslaw Majecki and Philipp Köhn have not consistently shown their full ability.
The decision follows initial internal reviews at the end of a campaign that could finish without European football and amid a chastening failure. Monaco sit seventh in Ligue 1 before their final match, at Strasbourg on Sunday at 21:00.
A successor has not yet been chosen and the process remains open.
De Boever has lined up summer work with Belgium for the World Cup in the United States from 11 June to 19 July, alongside his friend Guy Martens, goalkeeping coach to head coach Rudi Garcia.
He was already with the Red Devils during March’s international break at Tubize to prepare friendlies against the United States and Mexico. He will again have the chance to work with Thibaut Courtois, whom he rates highly, and his stint is not expected to run beyond the World Cup.
