Atlético Madrid reject Real Madrid’s €150m bid for Julian Alvarez | OneFootball

Real Madrid said in a statement on Tuesday that it had tabled a €150 million bid to Atlético Madrid for Julian Alvarez. The club added that Atlético studied the proposal, thanked Real given the good relations between the neighbours, and declined it.

The move also revealed the identity behind Florentino Pérez’s campaign pledge to submit a €150 million offer for an unnamed signing.

Publishing the target is an uncommon step that can be read two ways. Alvarez, a 2022 world champion with Argentina and again selected for the World Cup, was named explicitly.

It can be seen as the re-elected president, confirmed on Sunday, signalling he intends to keep his promises.

It might equally be a jab at Barcelona, who are very interested in the 26-year-old centre-forward.
