According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Boavista, the Portuguese club who sold Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to Leeds United in 1997, have ceased operations after 123 years.

Hasselbaink joined Leeds from Boavista for £2m in the summer of 1997, then struck 42 goals in 87 appearances across two seasons.

Boavista won the Primeira Liga for the only time in their history in 2001. Major financial problems followed their 2008 relegation, and a later return to the top flight ended with another drop in 2025.

The club were refused registration for Liga 2 or Liga 3, so they began the season in the Porto district league. They withdrew after playing just three games.

Efforts are now being made to launch a phoenix club to keep the team and name alive.
