The Spanish football federation announced that 30-year-old Zaragoza-born referee Carlos Muñiz Muñoz will oversee the decisive Castellón v Eibar on LaLiga Hypermotion's final day, with both clubs still in play-off contention.
Muñiz Muñoz is among the younger officials and knows Castellón well. This season he has refereed them three times, all away from SkyFi Castalia, and Pablo Hernández's side stayed unbeaten.
First came a 0-0 draw at Burgos in El Plantío, where Castellón appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty on Cala. He then oversaw a 4-0 win at Valladolid. Most recently he handled the 3-2 comeback at Málaga's La Rosaleda, awarding a disputed handball penalty against Diego Barri.
Their meetings also include last season, when he took charge of a 2-0 defeat at Tenerife in Heliodoro Rodríguez López. In the Primera RFEF he oversaw two matches at SkyFi Castalia, home wins over Intercity 1-0 and Algeciras 2-1.
Castellón must win to secure a play-off place without depending on others, while Eibar also need three points to keep their hopes alive. VAR will be operated by the experienced Javier Iglesias, supervising any reviewable incidents.
