Confirmed: Barcelona midfielder completes loan move to Deportivo with €30 million buy option | OneFootball

Barcelona have officially confirmed Marc Casado’s departure from the club, with the midfielder joining newly promoted Deportivo La Coruña on loan until June 2027.

The move brings an end to a summer of uncertainty around the 22-year-old, who had been expected to leave Barcelona after falling down the midfield pecking order. 

Instead of a permanent transfer, Casado will spend the 2026/27 season in Galicia, with Deportivo holding an option to sign him permanently for €30 million.

Barcelona officially announced the agreement on Tuesday, stating,

“Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and Deportivo A Coruña for the loan of Marc Casado until 30 June 2027. All the best, Marc.”

Casado chooses Deportivo after late negotiations

The deal accelerated in the final stages of the transfer window after Deportivo worked to create enough salary space for the Barcelona midfielder. 

Notably, Barça will cover a significant portion of Casado’s wages during the loan, which was an important factor in making the agreement possible.

Deportivo had been interested in the La Masia product since Barcelona began exploring options for his future. 

Casado ultimately gave his approval to the move, allowing negotiations between the clubs to progress quickly.

The €30m purchase option gives Deportivo a route to make the transfer permanent next summer, although that figure represents a considerable investment for the Galician club.

Casado leaves Barcelona having made 75 first-team appearances, registering one goal and seven assists. During that period, he collected two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups. 

There was another option

It is worth noting that Turkey remained an alternative until the final stages of the window, with Besiktas and Galatasaray among the clubs interested. 

Furthermore, Bayer Leverkusen had also enquired but did not ultimately advance with a move.

However, after assessing all of his options, the midfielder decided to stay in Spain.
