Villarreal host a resurgent Deportivo de A Coruña at La Cerámica on Saturday, their first meeting since 2018.

The last official clash came on 12 May 2018, when Villarreal sealed a Europa League berth with a 4-2 win over a depressed Deportivo, who ended a four-season Primera División spell with defeat. Samu Castillejo opened the scoring in the second minute with a fine left-foot finish.

El Periódico Mediterráneo notes that Deportivo, champions of one Liga and two Copas del Rey and a former Champions League semi-finalist, have reclaimed their elite status after four seasons in Primera Federación.

Marc Casadó and Jose María Giménez could debut at La Cerámica if Antonio Hidalgo chooses. Casadó, formerly of FC Barcelona, joins on loan with an option to buy of 30 million, and the centre-back, previously at Atlético de Madrid, has also arrived on loan.

The duo round off an eye-catching window featuring the Gabonese forward Pierre Aubameyang, Angeliño and Adama Traoré, while Yeremay Hernández has been kept. At 37, he is scoring at a goal a game.
