England defender Dan Burn has revealed that he feels some guilt over the freak injury Jordan Henderson suffered after the dramatic last-32 win over Mexico at the World Cup 2026.

Henderson, 36, slipped and broke both his wrist and forearm after attempting to vault over advertising hoardings during the Three Lions’ celebrations at the Azteca Stadium.

The Brentford midfielder required surgery on the injury and has since been ruled out of the rest of the tournament, and Burn has revealed that he feels some guilt over the incident after vaulting over the advertising boards himself moments before.

“I think I killed him a bit, because I made it look really easy when I jumped over,” Burn told talkSPORT. “I just heard the noise behind us straight away, and you know with Hendo, if he doesn’t get up, there’s something wrong.

“I am gutted for him. He wasn’t on the pitch but he was still buzzing for everyone. He’s had his op now. I’m happy he’s back in Kansas now, because I think it’s been a long few days.”

The Newcastle defender then joked: “I wouldn’t put it past him, even with a splint, to be out on Saturday doing a warm-up with the lads.”

Though Henderson will play no further part at this year’s World Cup, the veteran midfielder has re-joined the England camp ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway.

Reflecting on the role Henderson will play in the remainder of the tournament, Burn said: “He’s huge as a leader in the group, setting standards and driving people every day.

“He is a big miss when he’s not around there. Even if he’s not getting minutes on the pitch, it’s vital for us that he is in there.

“If you ask any of the lads there, they always say that they need him around. I’m glad that he’s still going to be around the hotel and stuff.”
