FC Barcelona cruised to a resounding 6-0 victory over Valencia on Sunday night, riding on the brilliance of young midfielder Fermin Lopez.
The Spanish international, who had been linked with a move to Chelsea until the summer transfer deadline day, showcased why he is held in such high regard by manager Hansi Flick, scoring a brace and turning in an all-round display at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
Speaking to the media after the game, Fermin Lopez commented on the transfer rumours that linked him with an exit and the speculations that he was considering a move to Chelsea.
“It’s true that I’ve been calm. Not everything that’s been said is true, I don’t want to get into that. My intention has always been to be here for many years,” he said, as quoted by SPORT.
“I never had any doubts. There was always speculation, but I’ve always wanted to be here, and I’ll fight to be here for many years,” added Fermin.

Just as he did in the Gamper Trophy against Como, the midfielder struck twice again vs Valencia to lead Barça to a resounding win and was named MVP of the night.
“This pitch brings me luck,” he confessed. “The first goal was a great team move, a great assist from Ferran, and I was able to score. For the second, I received the ball between the lines, tried a shot from outside the box, and it went in.”
Fermin admitted that the start of the game was not easy, but stressed the team’s ability to impose its style came through.
“It was a difficult match at the beginning, but the whole team was on form and the score reflects that. We took advantage of our opportunities. It’s true that we felt very good, just like we did last year,” he noted.
The connection between Fermin and Ferran Torres was once again there for all to see, with the forward setting up the youngster for the opening goal.
“I get on really well with ‘Ferri’, he gave me a great assist and I was able to score the first goal,” he said.
On Hansi Flick’s message in the dressing room, Fermin was clear: “It was the same as last year: play with intensity and humility. We’re on the right track, and we have to keep it up.”
