Fernando Diniz says Memphis Depay is improving physically but would not name a comeback date after Corinthians beat Uruguay’s Peñarol 2-0 in the Libertadores, maintaining a perfect run of three wins from three.
According to Meu Timao, Diniz stressed that caution and prudence are guiding the forward’s rehab, saying the priority is a consistent return and staying on the pitch. He added that Memphis is engaged daily with two treatment sessions, was in the dressing room, and remains a key leader.
The No 10 was injured against Flamengo on 22 March in the eighth round of the Brasileiro and has been treating a strain in the anterior muscle of his right thigh. The issue also kept him out of the Netherlands’ friendlies with Norway and Ecuador at the end of March.
Memphis has not yet featured under Diniz, who was appointed on 6 March, less than 24 hours after Dorival Júnior was dismissed. Since the change, Corinthians are unbeaten and have not conceded.
Corinthians visit Mirassol on Sunday in the Brasileiro at 20:30 at Estádio José Maria de Campos Maia, in the 14th round.
