Rangers are reportedly set to open talks with former Sunderland captain Dan Neil, with Premier League newcomers Coventry City also interested as he weighs a major decision over his future.
According to Sunderland Echo, Neil’s Black Cats contract expires this summer after he effectively ended his spell in January by joining Ipswich Town on loan.
He made 17 appearances as Kieran McKenna’s side won promotion from the Championship as runners-up, though a permanent switch to Portman Road is not expected.
The Academy of Light product posted a farewell message thanking coaches, team-mates, staff and supporters, expressing pride at helping return Sunderland to the Premier League and describing the captaincy as a boyhood dream fulfilled.
Coventry are believed to be keen as they prepare for the Premier League after being crowned Championship winners, while a move to Glasgow could appeal given the prospect of European football and a domestic challenge to Celtic and Hearts.
