The ambitious project aims to put newly formed KAIS FC in Portugal’s top flight within a decade
A new project is preparing to enter Portuguese football in the 2027/28 season, and it looks unlike anything currently in the pyramid. KAIS FC is being built from zero on the Lisbon coast as a media institution, a football club and a premium lifestyle brand. The three pillars exist from day one, each one operating as a commercial business in its own right.
The founder is Ángel Monzón, a Spanish operator with a background in strategy consulting, investment banking and as Chief of Staff at fast-scaling technology companies, including Piper (later acquired by Aircall) and Paradox. He left a tech career to build KAIS full-time. “I left everything behind to do this,” he says. “A project like KAIS can’t be done part-time.”
The project’s core thesis is structural: the football generates the narrative, the media engine captures it and publishes the KAIS Story Series on a weekly basis, the audience compounds around the content, sponsorship and brand revenue scale with the audience, and the revenue strengthens the football. “The loop tightens every season,” Monzón explains.
KAIS will enter AFL III Divisão (the third division of the Lisbon Football Association), which equates to the seventh tier of Portuguese football, in the 2027/28 season. The ten-year goal is the Primeira Liga, with four promotions standing between the entry tier and the first semi-professional level. “The football part is serious,” Monzón says. “The squad will be assembled to win every division it competes in.”
What sets KAIS apart from any other lower-division project is the media operation. Every part of the institution is being filmed from inside: strategic meetings, signings, supplier negotiations, dressing room conversations, scouting, the wins and the losses. All of it published weekly as the KAIS Story Series, at broadcast quality. “The archive becomes the moat and the competitive advantage of this model,” Monzón notes.
To support the build, KAIS is currently raising from a defined cohort of Founding Owners with permanent equity in KAIS FC and a minimum ticket of €5,000.
The first competitive season is 2027/28. Until then, everything is being documented in public. The landing page, including the Founding Owners application, is live at kaisfc.com.
