Matt Doherty has left Wolves after he was not offered a new contract this summer.

Wolves’ technical director Matt Jackson said the 34-year-old epitomised the club, praising his leadership and development from teenager to senior professional, and wishing him well for the future.

Across two spells he made 389 appearances over 13 years, becoming the club’s 16th-highest appearance maker. He now leaves as a free agent.

Doherty joined in 2010 and broke through under Kenny Jackett as Wolves won promotion from League One in 2013/14.

He was a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side that reached the Premier League, recorded two seventh-placed finishes, and advanced to the FA Cup semi-final and Europa League quarter-final.

He moved to Spurs in 2020, had a short stint with Atletico Madrid, and returned to Molineux in 2023.
