Neymar’s father visited CT Rei Pelé on Monday alongside president Marcelo Teixeira, a day before the UCV play-off return, to ease internal tensions. According to Diario Do Peixe, the visit aimed to calm a backstage crisis at Santos.

The weekend was turbulent after Neymar became angered by leaks of his dressing-room demands to team-mates following Saturday’s Brasileirão match with Chapecoense, and he did not train on Sunday.

Coordinator Léo, club idol Clodoaldo, the president’s son Marcelinho, and Management Committee member Daniel Alves were also at the training base. Neymar does not have a good relationship with Marcelinho and Daniel Alves, and this extends to other players in the squad.

Footage showed Neymar greeting Marcelinho and Daniel Alves while his father spoke with Marcelo Teixeira. It also showed Neymar speaking with Gabriel Bontempo, one of the players he had criticised after the Chapecoense game.

With a mixed line-up, Santos face UCV at 21:30 on Tuesday at Vila Belmiro in the Copa Sul-Americana play-offs. They won the first leg 4-1 in Venezuela and can lose by up to two goals and still reach the last 16.
