Nicolas Dixon hails Elland Road mural return as "as good as it gets" | OneFootball

Leeds United fan artist Nicolas Dixon, creator of Bielsa The Redeemer, is repainting his relocated Elland Road mural and plans to add the finishing touches this weekend.

"As a Leeds United fan painting on the side of Elland Road is as good as it gets," he said. As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Dixon has been invited back to support the redevelopment.

Plans for a new West Stand were approved in January and the wall carrying the piece is becoming the club’s new security hub. The need for outward kiosk windows meant the mural had to be moved and repainted.

Now at the north east corner, the artwork marks the 1972 FA Cup win and features Don Revie and Les Cocker. Dixon was first commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters Trust in 2022, using portraits by Paul Trevillion to mark 50 years.

"I had to reconfigure the players and totally redesign it as the kiosk was right on Don Revie’s head," he explained. "It was more difficult than I expected to be honest but I’m quite happy with how it all fits, and I actually prefer it now to how it was before."

He has teased a few surprises on the finished piece and says it is already visible to passers-by. Leeds host RB Leipzig in a pre-season friendly on 8 August, with redevelopment ultimately taking capacity from 37,645 to 53,000.
