Oliver Glasner marked his first home match in charge with a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, sealed by a late winner at the City Ground.

Nottingham Post notes that Ousmande Diomande and Xaver Schlager had their first City Ground outings, with Schlager particularly impressive in a tidy first-half showing.

Forest struck on four minutes after Schlager’s first-time pass created a two-on-one on the left, Morgan Gibbs-White finding Ndoye to volley in from eight yards. Nikola Milenkovic’s header was then blocked by Loic Bade, before Ibrahim Sangare fired just over from Ola Aina’s cross via Igor Jesus.

Leverkusen threatened as Patrik Schick should have equalised with a back-post header, then levelled on 34 minutes with a clever chip past Matz Sels. Glasner replaced his entire XI at the break, with Taiwo Awoniyi among those introduced.

Nicolas Dominguez was tipped over from James McAtee’s corner, and McAtee drew one save from three efforts. In the 90th minute Kalimuendo glanced in Luca Netz’s inswinging free-kick to clinch it.

Player ratings saw Schlager lead the way, praised for winning and using the ball well. Gibbs-White’s quality shone, McAtee was bright after the interval, and Ndoye and Kalimuendo provided the goals as Diomande and Murillo continued to build sharpness.
