Spain hit Saudi Arabia 4-0, a forceful reply built on unity and resolve.
It followed the Cape Verde stalemate. Luis de la Fuente had suggested his players felt stung by criticism, according to Superdeporte. Mikel Oyarzabal struck a brace and was named player of the match.
The forward played down the media’s importance, saying the squad were angrier with themselves. He stressed their self-criticism and belief they could do much better.
Dani Olmo accepted the background noise as part of the game and said the team respond when pressure rises. He added that staying like this to the end is one of their strengths.
Álex Baena said the group stayed calm afterwards and felt they had deserved more. He noted their routine did not change and that enjoyment was clear on the pitch.
Lamine used humour, saying he gets wound up even by video games, so this affected him more. De la Fuente argued that doubting this team and this generation is unfair, after a display full of goals, football and character.
