Sunderland ‘in talks’ for £30m Matías Soulé as Florent Ghisolfi link and European preference surface | OneFootball

Sunderland have held substantive talks with Matías Soulé’s representative, with Roma awaiting an official proposal. Romanews.eu reports that the 23-year-old winger’s agent has spoken with Sunderland and Fulham in England as he weighs his next move.

Any bidder must approach Roma sporting director Tony D’Amico with an offer that meets the club’s valuation. The starting price is put at €35million, around £29.8million.

Soulé’s stance could favour Sunderland, as he is understood to want European football next season. With Régis Le Bris’ side set for the Europa League after last season’s seventh-place Premier League finish, Sunderland are suggested as the likelier fit ahead of Fulham.

Director of football Florent Ghisolfi worked at Roma and knows Soulé, a link that may help if Sunderland decide to formalise their interest.

There remains a gap between agent talks and satisfying Roma’s close to £30million demands. The next development will be whether Sunderland or Fulham submit an official bid during the window.
