Sunderland’s retained list is taking shape, with 55 set to stay, 14 to depart and 10 in contract talks, according to Sunderland Echo’s latest predictions. Formal confirmation is pending, but decisions are emerging across the first team and academy.
Lutsharel Geertruida is due to return to RB Leipzig at the end of his loan, while Dennis Cirkin and Dan Neil are nearing the end of their deals. Sunderland have triggered a one-year option for goalkeeper Simon Moore. Options exist on Bertrand Traore and Niall Huggins, with both predicted to leave and Traore the likelier to stay.
A large senior core is already under contract for next season, including Anthony Patterson, Dan Ballard, Luke O’Nien, Trai Hume, Chris Rigg, Enzo Le Fée, Granit Xhaka, Simon Adingra and Brian Brobbey. Planning for the summer window continues under sporting director Florent Ghisolfi.
In the academy, Ben Metcalf, Jenson Jones and Luke Bell have had one-year options triggered, and Matty Young has signed a new deal after his Salford City loan. Joe Cowan and Isaac Allan remain contracted. Zak Johnson’s option could be exercised after his York City spell to protect value.
Departures are set to include goalkeepers Dan Cameron and Adam Richardson, with Ivan Struk, George Bell, Jake Waters, Harrison Jones, Ollie Bainbridge, Tom Lavery and Ethan Moore also expected to leave in June. Talks continue with prospects Marcus Neill, Jack Whittaker and others, with Neill’s scoring form prompting discussions over improved professional terms. First-year scholars will progress into year two under contract.
