Vasco prioritise Brazilian signings late in window amid foreign player cap

Vasco are prioritising Brazilian reinforcements in the final days of the window after signing Sosa and Colidio took their foreign contingent to 10, above the CBF limit of nine per matchday squad. According to Globo.com, the focus is on filling remaining gaps without breaching the cap.

Alongside the two Argentines, the club have Uruguayans Puma Rodríguez and Alan Saldivia, Colombians Andrés Gómez, Carlos Cuesta, Johan Rojas and Marino Hinestroza, Portuguese winger Nuno Moreira, plus Argentine forward Spinelli. With the new arrivals, Pedro Emanuel must omit one foreign player from the list, and against Santos Saldivia was left out.

A number nine is a priority. Talks have intensified over Bruno Duarte of Estrela Vermelha, Serbia, with his scoring profile and Brazilian nationality viewed as positives to address the team’s shortage of goals.

In defence, Vasco are also targeting a Brazilian. Diego Carlos is the plan A, but Parma have entered the race and their talks with Fenerbahçe, the club he belongs to, have advanced in recent days over a loan.

The club have sounded out other Brazilians abroad, including Arthur Chaves of Hoffeinhem, Gabriel Pereira of Copenhagen and Luiz Felipe of Rayo Vallecano, though discussions have not progressed significantly so far.

The door is not closed to overseas options, as Vasco still want a number eight for midfield and remain in talks with foreign targets after negotiations for Colombian Nelson Deossa cooled. Even so, late-window moves are expected to be mostly Brazilian due to the CBF limit.
