Vila Nova’s Hayner searched in interstate drugs and arms probe | OneFootball

Vila Nova right-back Hayner was searched on Monday 31 in an investigation into interstate drug and weapons trafficking. His home and his personal locker at the club’s Vila do Tigre training centre were among the locations.

In a statement, Vila Nova said searches had taken place, insisted Hayner had no involvement in illicit activity, and relayed his belief he was named because of a childhood friendship with a man under investigation, adding that the measure aimed only to verify any potential link, that he has cooperated fully and remains available to clarify matters, and that the club respects due process while awaiting developments.

The operation, called A Tropa, also targeted Vasco forward David. In total, four temporary arrest warrants and 15 search and seizure orders are being carried out across Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Goiás and Distrito Federal.

The case is being led by Espírito Santo’s Civil Police, who are examining possible involvement of other professional athletes and businessmen with the criminal group under investigation.

Hayner continues his professional activities as normal.
