West Brom are set to miss Nolan Galves for the rest of the campaign, while Callum Styles and Jimmy-Jay Morgan's issues aren't a cause for concern

West Brom have revealed that Nolan Galves will miss the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign after suffering a knee injury, while also giving more positive updates on the status of both Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Callum Styles.

The Baggies have enjoyed a bright start to the new campaign, sitting fifth heading into the international break with 14 points from eight games.

While many expected an improvement from last season's relegation near miss in James Morrison's first full campaign in charge at the Hawthorns, the fast start has caught quite a few fans by surprise.

The one main drawback to the West Brom squad, though, is its lack of depth. Only Cardiff City have fielded fewer players through the first month of the campaign than the Baggies, with the number of senior players in reserve few and far between.

New signing Nolan Galves was settling into life at West Brom well, after arriving in the summer from French outfit Rodez. He played every minute in their opening five league outings, before being rested for the trip to Derby County.

However, he was called into action in the first half after his replacement, Brayann Pereira, was sent off for two early yellow cards. His evening would be over just 15 minutes later, after coming off with a meniscus injury.

Unfortunately, in a fresh update, it's been revealed that Galves will miss the remainder of the campaign due to that injury, with the Frenchman going under the knife for ACL reconstruction earlier this week.

Baggies commentator at BBC West Midlands, Steve Hermon, called the injury a "devastating blow," with James Morrison's side now light on the right-hand side of defence.

"That’s a really nasty injury to get, and hope he comes back the player he was after 😬. Rest up," one Baggies fan said online in response to the news. "That’s such a shame man, was playing so well as well before the injury," another added.

"Gutted for him, he was making that RB position his own🤦🏻‍♂️," and "Honestly gutted for him!," were also among the replies.

Callum Styles' injury concerns aren't as severe

Galves' replacement in the last couple of games for West Brom has been Callum Styles. Even with Pereira back from suspension for the Black Country Derby, James Morrison opted for the Hungarian on the right, with Conor Townsend coming in at left-back.

The 26-year-old has played every minute of league action for the Baggies this season, but had to withdraw from the Hungary squad for the current Nations League fixtures due to injury, which would have been a big concern at the Hawthorns.

Luckily enough, in the same update, Albion's Director of Medical, Tony Strudwick, gave the good news that Styles had suffered only a minor knock and, after a three-week break, should be back in contention for the visit of Birmingham City on October 10.

That being said, Baggies fans are hoping they can still recall either Alfie Gilchrist or Alex Williams, who are out on loan at Leyton Orient and Hibernian, respectively, to cover the right-back position, with Styles preferred on the left.

"Well we either have to recall Gilchrist or Williams. Or get in for a Fullback in January, just Pereira isn't enough if we wanna push playoff," one West Brom fan said in response to Galves' injury news.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan will also be in contention to return after withdrawing from England U-20 duty

More concerning than Styles withdrawing from international duty, though, was Jimmy-Jay Morgan, who didn't end up representing Darren Moore's England Under-20s side over recent weeks.

The 20-year-old has been the star man for James Morrison's side this season, netting five and assisting three in 10 games in all competitions to begin the campaign.

He too, like Styles, picked up just a knock before the break, though, and will have benefited enough from a rest to go again next weekend.
