West Brom are pursuing alternative attacking targets as out-of-contract forwards Karlan Grant and Josh Maja remain unlikely to agree new terms. The club are progressing recruitment on the basis the pair move on from The Hawthorns.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, both players’ contracts expire this summer, with Tuesday the final day of their deals. Albion’s mid-May retained list noted an offer to Maja and ongoing discussions with Grant.

Attackers have already arrived in James Morrison’s squad, with Falkirk’s Barney Stewart, 22, and Jimmy-Jay Morgan, 21, from Chelsea. Both joined for initial fees of around £1.3m.

Former captain Jed Wallace and striker Daryl Dike have departed at the end of their contracts. Terms have been offered to Grant, who has spent six seasons at the club, and to Maja, who joined in 2023, but neither has committed. While the pair assess other opportunities, Albion are relaxed and intent on refreshing their attacking options.

If Grant and Maja do depart, senior forward options would include Aune Heggebo, Isaac Price, Mikey Johnston and the new arrivals Stewart and Morgan. Heggebo, Stewart and Morgan operate centrally, while Price and Johnston are more natural out wide, with some flexibility across the line.

Grant scored a consolation at Sheffield Wednesday in early May, in what is likely to have been his final Albion appearance. Albion are likely to strengthen further in wide areas given Wallace’s exit and Grant’s expected departure.
