Brazilian winger chose "loyalty over prestige"

What made Antony reject Bayern Munich after Kompany’s personal phone call?
Brazilian winger Antony has revealed that Bayern Munich made late attempt to sign him during the final 24 hour of the summer transfer window with head coach Vincent Kompany personally calling him to push for the move.
After falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, Antony revived his career last season during successful loan spell at Real Betis helping the Spanish club reach the UEFA Europa Conference League final before losing to Chelsea.
His impressive run led Betis to sign him permanently at the start of the current campaign but the deal could have taken very different direction.
Speaking to GLOBO, the 25 year old confirmed that Bayern made concrete approach:
"Bayern tried to sign me in the final 24 hour of the transfer window. Vincent Kompany called me personally. He told me he had always admired my game"
Despite the appeal of joining one of Europe’s giants, Antony says he chose to honour his commitment to Betis:
"I had already promised Betis I would stay. Kompany influenced me lot — we’re talking about global club and top coach — but my word to Betis came first"
Antony has been one of Betis standout performers this season scoring six goal and delivering two assist across all competitions.
