Dominique Delport has rapidly moved centre stage at Girondins de Bordeaux after the club’s sale to Sparta and associates including James Bord. Until Friday evening his name was little known to supporters and regular observers.

According to L'Équipe, the former journalist, seen as close to Vincent Bolloré, has since taken prominence on social media.

Less than two hours after his name first appeared in the press as the France-based contact for Bord, future majority shareholder, Delport used LinkedIn and X to present himself as the club’s next president.

His posts cast him as extremely proud and honoured to lead the team set to write a new chapter for Bordeaux, a club he grew up with and views as integral to the history of French football.

Delport has a long career in journalism and business.
