Matthis Abline was AS Monaco’s marquee signing this summer, however, he has yet to make his debut for the Principality club. That debut will not come against Gornik Zabrze on Thursday night and it is unlikely to come against Olympique de Marseille either.

The France youth international continues to struggle with a foot injury sustained against Coventry City in pre-season. As he struck the ball against the Premier League side, he caught the studs of his opponent. A wound was immediately opened, and despite blood coming through his sock and shoe, he played on. But he has not been able to put on a boot since.

Abline received stitches for the injury and the area is still painful. As a result, he is training, albeit in trainers, which are much less tight on the top of the foot. It is in trainers that the former FC Nantes forward did individual exercises in Wednesday’s training session, attended by Get French Football News.

Later on Wednesday, Filipe Luís provided an update on the forward. “Abline is not available for tomorrow. He is still struggling to put boots on. The wound should be healed in the coming days, but currently he can only train individually. We hope that he can be back in next week,” said the Monaco manager. A debut against OM, therefore, looks unlikely.

Luis also confirmed that Folarin Balogun was not yet ready, nor is Ansu Fati. Mohammed Salisu and Takumi Minamino are both nearing returns from ACL injuries but are not yet fit to play.
