Wolves’ spending on agents’ fees almost doubled to £25.9m across the last two windows, while Villa paid more than £38.4m.
The FA published figures for transactions, including transfers and renewals, between four February 2025 and two February this year. Chelsea led the Premier League with £65.1m for the second year running, as the total rose to £460m. Villa were second after an increase of more than £13m on the previous 12 months.
Wolves’ outlay ranked seventh, up from £13.5m the year before when they were eighth lowest.
That spell included last summer’s window, when they signed six players, none with prior Premier League experience. Brazilian striker Jhon Arias departed after six months, sold in the winter window.
They now sit bottom with seven matches remaining, having won only three league games all season.
Villa’s summer recruitment was constrained by UEFA’s financial fair play rules. Evann Guessand arrived from Nice for nearly £30m, their only major summer buy, before Tammy Abraham joined for £18.2m in winter.
During the period, Tyrone Mings, John McGinn and Morgan Rogers agreed new contracts.
Albion’s agents’ fees fell to £1.3m from £2.5m, the sixth-lowest in the Championship, with Ipswich paying the most at £11.7m. Walsall’s spend dropped by about £40,000 to £104,000, while Shrewsbury Town’s rose by about £15,000 to £91,500.
