The FA’s newly released figures show Wolves’ payments to agents nearly doubled to £25.9m across the last two windows, while Villa spent more than £38.4m, the Premier League’s second highest outlay.
Villa’s bill rose by more than £13m year on year, with only Chelsea higher at £65.1m as the league-wide total climbed to £460m, up by more than £50m.
The data covers payments tied to transfers and contract renewals between four February 2025 and two February this year. Wolves’ outlay ranked seventh after being the eighth lowest a year earlier, up from £13.5m.
Last summer Wolves signed six players, none with previous Premier League experience. Brazilian forward Jhon Arias departed after six months in the winter window. The team sit bottom with seven matches left, having won only three league games all season.
Villa endured a constrained summer, with recruitment hampered by Uefa’s financial fair play rules. Evann Guessand arrived from Nice in a deal worth nearly £30m and was the only major purchase. Tammy Abraham joined for £18.2m in winter, while Tyrone Mings, John McGinn and Morgan Rogers signed new contracts during the period.
In the Championship, Albion’s agent-fee spend fell by nearly half to £1.3m from £2.5m, the sixth lowest in the division. Ipswich led the second tier at £11.7m, while Walsall’s outlay dropped by around £40,000 to £104,000 and Shrewsbury Town’s rose by around £15,000 to £91,500.
