Chelsea hold concrete interest in Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet, but the Frenchman is now on Bayern Munich’s radar according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.
The Blues weren’t expected to be active in the transfer window, but it appears their plans have changed, with the club now looking to sign a centre back.
Chelsea lost Levi Colwill to an ACL injury before the start of the season, but didn’t replace the England international.
Liam Rosenior seems to have come to the same conclusion as Enzo Maresca that the current crop of centre backs aren’t good enough or don’t possess the skill set he needs for his system.
Chelsea reportedly have three names on their list with Como’s Jacobo Ramon, and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi thought to be two of the names.
However, the main target is said to be Jacquet, although a number of clubs are monitoring the 20-year-old, and Plettenberg has provided an update.

Jacquet is attracting interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs.
He took to X.com and said:
“Yes, Jérémy #Jacquet is now back on Bayern’s radar.
“Eberl/Freund hold a very high opinion of the 20 y/o promising centre-back from Stade Rennes. However, he would be very expensive (more than €50m), and Bayern believe they have little chance of completing the deal.
“A move is also unlikely if Kim Min-jae stays. Been told that Chelsea are very concretely interested and have already held talks. More top clubs are also pushing for him. #CFC @SkySportDE.”
Jacquet is a France under-21 international, and is under contract with Rennes until 2029, with the French club believed to not want to sell this month.
Any signing this month would be targets from the summer being brought forward, and Chelsea reportedly are trying to do a deal this month as they know there will be competition in the summer.

The Blues are reportedly also looking for a central midfield player and an attacker, but how likely any of those positions are is unclear.
What is clear is that Chelsea are seemingly trying to strengthen the squad this month, and fans will be hoping they can get at least one deal done.
