In football, one player’s misfortune often becomes another’s opportunity.

While it may feel a little harsh to think this way, it is the reality at Barcelona right now.

This is because Frenkie de Jong and Gavi are both struggling with physical problems, opening the door for young midfielder Marc Casado to step up.

Gavi is dealing with discomfort in his right knee after returning from international duty. He is still not fully fit and will miss Barcelona’s league clash against Valencia on September 14.

Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong left the Dutch national team training camp due to muscle issues in his glute area.

Although the problem is not serious, it leaves him doubtful for the match against Valencia.

With Barcelona needing three points after drawing against Rayo Vallecano, missing two key midfielders has put Hansi Flick on alert.

Casado is ready to seize the moment

As such, Casado is once again in prime position to prove himself. The midfielder had been on the market this summer, and Barcelona would have considered offers.

But Casado’s determination to stay and succeed at Barça impressed the club. Flick, who values all his midfielders, has made it clear that players like Casado are crucial when injuries strike.

The 21-year-old has already shown promise this season. Flick started him against Levante, though the match circumstances did not favour him.

Barcelona were 0-2 down at half-time, prompting Flick to bring in Gavi alongside Pedri. The comeback (3-2) shifted attention away from Casado, who had a solid first-half performance.

Another opportunity

This situation could now give the midfielder another chance to shine.

Last season, injuries to Frenkie de Jong and Marc Bernal allowed Casado to earn a starting spot, showing his tactical discipline, competitive spirit, and ability to balance the midfield.

With Barcelona facing crucial matches and a busy schedule ahead, Casado’s role could become more prominent, making him a key part of Flick’s plans in the early stages of the season.
