Barcelona are on the cusp of a new era. With a talented crop of young players emerging and a serial winner appointed to manage the club, they look forward to reclaiming their throne in European football.

In order to certify that these renewed ambitions yield fruit, Barcelona aims to equip Hansi Flick with the best resources and ensure his project has the full backing of the club.

Consequently, several top players have been shortlisted by the Catalans, as they intend to bolster the squad immediately after finalizing their return to the 1:1 rule in La Liga.

Among the names piquing their interest is Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich. The German thrived under Flick at Bayern Munich and would solve Barcelona’s deficiency in the defensive midfield department.

Indeed, according to BILD (h/t iMiaSanMia), currently, Joshua Kimmich, who has been linked with a move to Barça, intends to honour his contract with Bayern Munich until it expires in 2025.

Earlier this summer reports widely claimed that Kimmich could be on the chopping block for Bayern as the Bavarians look to cash out on him before losing him as a free agent next year.

Given the instability at the club, as they suffered a trophyless season for the first time in years, Kimmich was also entertaining the possibility of an exit in search of better pastures.

However, the recent information dashes Barça’s dreams of setting up a reunion between Flick and Kimmich as the midfielder intends to see out his contract before leaving for free in 2025.

The Catalans’ desire to fortify the midfield position has been no secret now and their interest in Kimmich has been long-standing, so they may return to sign the 29-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

But with Kimmich potentially chalked off their wishlist for the current transfer window, Barcelona must now redirect their attention elsewhere.

The likes of Mikel Merino and Brazilian talent Wendel serve as good external solutions, while Barcelona could also look in-house and place their faith in Pau Prim.
