The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys served as a good stand-in home for Barcelona last season. Yet, it is safe to say that no stadium can do justice to the aura and the atmosphere generated at Spotify Camp Nou.

Heading into the new season, Barcelona will have to depend on their foster home for at least the first half of the campaign. There is, however, hope that the Camp Nou will reopen to some capacity later in the year.

As per the last update, the stadium was expected to return to 60% capacity in December, with the club reportedly even in negotiations with UEFA to host games at the legendary stadium.

Speaking to the media earlier today, Barcelona Vice President and the head of Espai Barça, Elena Fort, confirmed that the team would likely return to the Spotify Camp Nou in 2024.

“The works follow the planned schedule, and we are on the deadlines that we have. Our first idea was to try to reach the iconic date of November 29, when we will celebrate our 125th anniversary,” she said, via Mundo Deportivo.

“It will be a few more days, but today we can say that we will have the stadium ready to play at the end of the year,” she added, confirming the slight delay.

The Vice President then revealed how the administration ensured that the project would be completed without delays and the penalties in place if work slowed down.

“When negotiating, we ensure the construction company’s commitment to meeting the deadlines. And yes, there is a penalty (if they do not deliver 60% of the finished stadium before the end of the year).”

“It is one of the many clauses that exist and, if the time comes, we will have to apply it, but I think the time will not come,” she added, reaffirming confidence in the project deadline.
