Bayer Leverkusen’s search for a new head coach well advanced | OneFootball

Kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen’s search for a new head coach, replacing Erik ten Hag, is already well advanced.

The aim for Leverkusen is to have their new head coach in place by next Tuesday so they can then take first-team training ahead of their game against Eintracht Frankfurt next Friday. If Leverkusen fail to do these by next Friday, then ten Hag’s previous assistants Andries Ulderink and Rogier Meijer will likely take charge.

With this deadline, it means die Werkself’s search is already well advanced.

Leverkusen want to hire a coach who will play 3-4-2-1, the previous head coach Xabi Alonso’s favoured formation, which means it heavily reduces the candidates. The new candidate must also have experience, preferably in the Bundesliga.

This means Marco Rose and Roger Schmidt are no longer candidates for the role. While ex-Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is not a favourite for the role, as he does not play in the competition.

Other names such as Raul, Claudio Giraldez and Inigo Perez can also be ruled out. However, the new head coach is said to speak very good Spanish.
