Lautaro Martinez returned to the scoresheet as Inter Milan beat Cagliari 2-0 at the Unipol Domus.

The captain struck after just nine minutes, setting the tone for a convincing performance in Sardinia.

Inter showed more control than in previous weeks.

Alessandro Bastoni was solid at the back, Hakan Calhanoglu dictated midfield tempo and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added experience in the heart of the midfield.

Manuel Akanji also impressed as Cristian Chivu’s side secured a third consecutive victory.

Young forward Francesco Pio Esposito came off the bench to seal the win late on.

His composed finish capped a confident display, marking his first Serie A goal for Inter.

“Positive feelings, I’m happy because we bring home three important points for the table,” Lautaro told DAZN, via FCInterNews.

“When I score and the team wins I’m always very happy.

“Cagliari at home are strong and made us suffer in some actions. This pitch is always difficult. We must keep working hard.”

On the group and Esposito: “We must continue on this path to get the best out of Inter. We still have a lot to do.

“Pio Esposito? A smart, wonderful boy. He works hard and listens. At his age he is already showing his value. He will help us a lot this year.”
