Lee Hendrie believes that Luke Woolfenden can be a really positive addition at Coventry City after his move from Ipswich Town.

It was reported by the Coventry Telegraph that a £4 million deal was agreed between the two clubs on deadline day.

Woolfenden had fallen down the pecking order at Portman Road, having previously been a key part of Kieran McKenna’s side.

The centre-back featured just 15 times in the Premier League last season, and did not play a single minute for the Tractor Boys in this campaign prior to his move to the CBS ARena.

Hendrie believes that Woolfenden could prove a smart signing for Coventry at a cost of £4 million given his experience at this level.

He has also claimed that it was an area of the squad that Frank Lampard needed to strengthen before the window closed, and he expects the ex-Ipswich player to prove his worth.

“I know that he’d been linked away from Ipswich,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“One player that certainly can play at that level in the Championship, and £4 million, I think he’ll be a good signing for Frank and Coventry.

“I think that’s an area where they haven’t really nailed down, so I think it's a really good addition.”

Coventry City’s summer business

Coventry had a relatively quiet summer all in all, but that didn’t stop them from being active right up until Monday’s deadline earlier this week.

The Sky Blues completed the deal to bring Woolfenden to the CBS Arena, which was their second transfer to involve a transfer fee in the window.

The arrival of Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa also cost a reported £3.5 million, according to the BBC.

Meanwhile, Miguel Ángel Brau was signed as a free agent after his exit from Granada, while Carl Rushworth was brought to Coventry on loan from Brighton.

Woolfenden will provide experience and cover for Coventry

Coventry are aiming to push for promotion this season, but were looking a little light at the back before signing Woolfenden.

Their relatively quiet summer was a smart move given how well the team had gelled under Lampard in the second half of the previous campaign, meaning not much work was needed.

Their business has been quite considered, with the club clearly identifying players with quality that can actually bring something to the squad at an affordable cost.

Woolfenden may not have an immediate impact on the side, but he will bring a lot of valuable experience as someone who has been part of a successful promotion campaign in the Championship, and he will provide an option to the backline that will give Lampard room to rotate his side through the gruelling season.
