Fabio Capello has delivered a clear and stinging assessment of Inter Milan in their 3–1 defeat to Napoli, arguing that the match revealed a sudden reversal of roles in the Serie A title race.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Capello said:
“Napoli–Inter was the mirror of this season, where everything changes very quickly.” In just 90 minutes, he noted, “the league leader changed” and so did the perception of both teams.
According to Capello, Napoli suddenly embodied the strengths Inter had shown for weeks, while Inter fell into the same crisis of identity that had plagued the Azzurri earlier this month.
“At full time, I had the impression the roles were reversed: Napoli looked like the Inter we had seen until yesterday: compact, determined and clinical. Inter looked like the Napoli on their knees in Turin and Eindhoven: disorganised, vulnerable and lost.”

Capello believes overconfidence may have played a part, suggesting the midweek win in Europe “exalted Inter too much.”
Furthermore, he added that “excess confidence can play bad tricks.”
Even Chivu’s attempt to lighten the players mentally, he said, was not enough.
“The coach tried a difficult play with the rest day, but it wasn’t enough. Inter were often disordered, and the substitutes took away more than they added.”
Despite the criticism, Capello still backs Inter to respond, concluding: “Nothing is compromised. Inter have all the tools to get back up. But without unity of purpose, you don’t go far.”
Inter must now focus on their midweek test against Fiorentina as they return to San Siro after three away games in a row.
