Stitched synthetic fibers added to existing pitch

Anyone who has taken a look inside the Red Bull Arena from the outside in recent days has been able to see something quite special. Three machines have been working tirelessly across the entire turf since Saturday – and for good reason. Our pitch is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade to a modern hybrid system in the first time this form has been used in an Austrian stadium. The new surface will celebrate its premiere this Thursday, October 30th, in the Cup round of 16 match against WSG Tirol.

Stitched fibres: what's in the new turf?

The new system combines high-quality natural turf with stitched synthetic fibres that are carefully embedded into the ground. Over a total of five days, three machines, each equipped with 100 fine needles, 'sewed' small tufts of twelve synthetic blades into the turf a few centimetres apart. This technology ensures a particularly stable and even playing surface – that lasts!

Why a hybrid pitch?

A majority of Europe's top clubs already rely on this technology, the advantages of which are clear:

The system shows its benefits especially during intensive phases of the season, when the turf is subject to heavy wear and tear, such as during the winter. The synthetic fibres stabilise the turf, protect the roots, and therefore enable consistent use.
