Benjamin Sesko’s arrival has not put an end to Manchester United’s attempts to strengthen their striker department.

During the summer transfer window, United beat multiple clubs to the signature of Sesko after agreeing a deal worth in the region of €85 million with RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old has had a promising star to his career at Old Trafford, having already bagged two goals in the Premier League. The Slovenian has also impressed with his all-round play. However, United remain in the market for another centre forward.

Mateta lands on Manchester United’s radar

According to Fichajes, United are interested in Crystal Palace frontman Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has experienced a rich vein of form under Oliver Glasner, having scored 21 goals since the start of last campaign.

The 6ft 3in striker is dominant in duels and excellent at holding the ball up.

Further, his Premier League experience has made him an appealing target for United.

Mateta is tied to Selhurst Park until the summer of 2027, and Palace value their talisman at €50m amid growing interest.

United should sign a rotational striker to easy the goalscoring burden on the relatively inexperienced Sesko, especially as Joshua Zirkzee has proven to be an underwhelming option in front of the net.

United striker could depart in January

Zirkzee is yet to start a game under Ruben Amorim so far this season, playing a total of just 113 minutes in all competitions.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Dutchman is “deeply frustrated” with his situation and has “reached a point where he is looking for an exit route in January.”

A number of clubs in the Premier League and Serie A are monitoring Zirkzee, whose exit could accelerate a move for someone like Mateta.
