Leeds United’s Gabi Gudmundsson missed Sweden training through illness before the World Cup opener against Tunisia.

The Sweden Herald reported that he remained at the team hotel with mild symptoms while the squad trained in Dallas, and the other 25 players were due to take part.

Gudmundsson joined Leeds from Lille for £10m last summer, his performances earning selection in Graham Potter’s Sweden squad for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

A hamstring problem ended his Premier League season early, yet he was named in the squad and returned last week to play 64 minutes in the final pre-World Cup friendly against Greece.

Sweden begin their Group F campaign in Monterrey, Mexico, in the early hours of Monday morning, Swedish time.
