PSG marched through Premier League clubs on their way to the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan, and one Liverpool player was impressed with the Ligue 1 side over the 180 minutes.

The Parisians are a few days away from attempting to win the club’s first-ever Champions League trophy. Moreover, it’s the second straight year that PSG went on a deep run in the competition, reaching the semifinals last year and the final in this campaign.

Against Aston Villa and Arsenal, PSG did head into the second leg with an advantage. However, that wasn’t the case in the Round of 16 against Liverpool. PSG did have to overturn a 1-0 deficit on the road at Anfield as it solidified their candidacy as a contender for the Champions League.

Liverpool ace gives praise for Inter Milan opponent PSG

In an interview with L’Équipe, Virgil van Dijk offered a candid assessment of Liverpool’s elimination by PSG in the Champions League Round of 16. While the defeat was frustrating, the Dutch defender had high praise for his opponents.

“I was very impressed by PSG’s style of play, the individual quality of their players, and the effort they all put in,” Van Dijk said (h/t GOAL France). “It was quite surprising that we won, given how much they dominated us—but that’s football.”
