Manchester United legend David Beckham is poised to be awarded a knighthood in King Charles’ Birthday Honours.

Beckham was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003.

He’s long been expected to receive a knighthood, but the honour has repeatedly eluded him until now. That’s all about to change, with wife Victoria soon to be known as Lady Beckham.

Back in 2017, Beckham’s frustration at being snubbed for a knighthood burst into the spotlight after a cache of controversial emails, allegedly sent by him, was leaked to the public.

Beckham will now be recognised for his illustrious football career and his remarkable contributions to British society.

Capped 115 times for England, Beckham is mostly known for his time at United. He also played for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, Paris St-Germain and AC Milan, retiring in 2013.

During his time at Old Trafford, Beckham won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, the Champions League and one Intercontinental Cup.

He was a key member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary 1999 squad that clinched an historic treble.

Last year, the 50-year-old was appointed an ambassador to the King’s Foundation, further cementing his ties with the royal family.

Beyond that, Beckham is carving out a successful path as a football executive, having co-founded MLS side Inter Miami, now home to football icon Lionel Messi.

Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Beckham and former United teammate Gary Neville completed the takeover of League Two club Salford City.

He has also been a passionate advocate for numerous charitable causes, most notably through his long-standing work with UNICEF.
