Nick Woltemade has proved to be yet another stunning Eddie Howe signing.

The Germany international has now started six games for Newcastle United and scored in five of the six.

His sixth start coming at Brighton on Saturday, an outrageous flick of the heel from Nick Woltemade producing a stunning finish.

That goal equalised Danny Welbeck’s first half opening goal.

When Nick Woltemade scored in the 76th minute it looked like there could be only one possible winner, as by then Newcastle had recovered from a poor first half to be the dominant team in as the game moved on after the break.

As Newcastle forced chances and corners, it looked like the winning goal was coming any second, only for Brighton to break and getting a fortunate fall of the ball from an excellent Dan Burn block, Welbeck applying another quality finish to give Nick Pope no chance.

Gutting for Newcastle United fans and the players of course, Nick Woltemade though keen to reassure supporters that he absolutely believes that United will get it right and the Premier League victories away from home will follow.

If Newcastle start away games the way they played in the final 30 or more minutes on Saturday, then for sure they will win plenty of away matches.

Nick Woltemade reflecting on what happened on Saturday when speaking to Premier League Productions:

“First half, we didn’t do good.

“The second half was good energy in the game.

“We scored one goal and it felt like we would win but they played good and scored. That’s football sometimes.

“The second half was way better than the first.

“I really like to play here.

“I get balls; the players are looking for me. The gaffer trusts me.

“In the second half, we had good chances but we lost them in the first half. We didn’t have good energy.

“It’s part of football when the ball doesn’t want to go in but it’s important we keep working on that.

“Before the national break, we had a good week and today you can see that we can get the game on our side in away games.

“We will keep working and win games away.”
