FC Barcelona have been in very good form in La Liga in recent weeks, and the return of injured players seems to be helping Hansi Flick. After a difficult start to the campaign, they now enjoy a healthy four-point lead over Real Madrid.
Last weekend, Barcelona secured a thumping 5–3 win against Real Betis at La Cartuja. Ferran Torres started as Barcelona’s number nine and scored a hat-trick, while Robert Lewandowski remained an unused substitute.
The rotation between the two forwards is unsurprising given Lewandowski’s age and the club’s strategy to manage his minutes carefully.
Despite being in the final months of his contract, Lewandowski continues to score freely for Barcelona and remains Flick’s most trusted option in big games. His ongoing influence makes any potential mid-season move highly unlikely, yet Italian media have linked the Polish striker with a possible January transfer to AC Milan.
According to Calciomercato (via Mundo Deportivo), AC Milan could attempt to bring Lewandowski to Italy not next summer as a free agent, but already in the imminent January window.
To convince Barcelona to accept the deal, the Serie A club would reportedly offer French forward Christopher Nkunku in exchange. The Italian side is looking to strengthen their squad as they chase the Serie A title, currently sitting at the top of the league table.
The report also claims that Milan is planning to meet soon with agent Pini Zahavi, who represents both Lewandowski and Nkunku, as well as Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, to explore the feasibility of the potential swap operation.
However, as per Mundo Deportivo, sources close to Lewandowski have firmly denied that such a meeting would take place.
Nkunku joined Milan last summer from Chelsea but has struggled to reproduce the form that earned him a €60 million move to the Premier League from RB Leipzig in 2023.
In 18 appearances for the Rossoneri this season, he has scored just twice and contributed one assist. Meanwhile, Lewandowski, despite being 37, remains highly effective at Barcelona, already scoring over a hundred goals for the club and contributing eight goals and two assists in 16 games this season.
Lewandowski, despite his advancing age, continues to score freely for Flick’s Barcelona and remains the German manager’s best bet in big games. Flick is unlikely to be open to this swap deal and will want to keep the trusted Pole at least until the end of the season.
Given his age, the rotation of minutes between Lewandowski and Ferran comes as no surprise. The Pole will continue to be pivotal in big games this season, and there is not much to read into these transfer rumours at the moment.
