Real Sociedad are under pressure to add goals in January as departures in attack near. According to AS, Sadiq Umar’s move to Valencia could be made official on Wednesday after progress between the clubs.

That would end a saga from last summer the club want settled in January. Jon Karrikaburu, having lacked minutes after opting to stay in August, could, in principle, leave on loan with an option to buy. His contract runs to 2027.

The academy striker has interest from Racing de Santander and Sporting de Gijón, seen as best placed given their promotion push, as well as Zaragoza. His exit would leave Pellegrino Matarazzo with a thin forward unit.

If those moves are confirmed, and with possible midfield departures for Sucic or Goti, the squad would have only Mikel Oyarzabal and Orri Óskarsson as specialist strikers. Given the Icelander’s fitness issues and the lack of numbers, shifting Guedes to the middle at times is not a sustainable fix, as it would weaken the flanks.

Market logic points to the need for a striker to keep the side competitive in the second half of the season. While Gorka Carrera, the B team’s top scorer who debuted against Villarreal under Sergio Francisco, is an option, the demands of the campaign suggest a more experienced profile could be targeted. La Real must decide in the coming days which forward to bring in to cover Sadiq and Karrikaburu and approach the run-in with assurance.
