Very quickly down a man in the first half, the Rouge et Blanc were forced to give in to the Breton team, despite Ansu Fati reducing the deficit at the end of the match (3-1).

Quickly reduced to ten men at the Stade Moustoir against a valiant FC Lorient team, AS Monaco players unfortunately suffered defeat in Brittany (3-1), on the 6th matchday of Ligue 1 McDonald’s. This was despite Ansu Fati’s fourth goal in the top flight. ✍️

President Dmitry Rybolovlev, who came to the Stade du Moustoir to support our Rouge et Blanc.

The context 📅

While they had won three straight matches in the league against Strasbourg (3-2), Auxerre (1-2) and Metz (5-2), the Rouge et Blanc travel to Morbihan weakened by absences. It would be a difficult trip to negotiate, against Les Merlus were  unbeaten for four and a half years at home turf against our Monégasques.

This is a team that tries to play football. Up front, Aiyegun Tosin is one of the fastest players in the league. I don't know who will line up with him, but Mohamed Bamba is also very fast, so we'll have to be careful with that.

The XI 👥

In the face of numerous absences, Adi Hütter opted to play a 3-4-1-2, with Kehrer-Dier-Mawissa in defence. The midfield was Teze-Coulibaly, while George Ilenikhena started in attack after two succesful substitute appearances in the top flight.

The scenario 🎞

The kick-off was given with more than 200 Monaco supporters in the enclosure, who had come to support their Rouge et Blanc. The start was timid on the part of both teams, even though Le Bris twice (3′ and 19′) and Bamba from range (23′) tried their luck unsuccessfully. The response came with a shot off target by Takumi Minamino (29′), who later attempted a clever lob to beat Mvogo (37′).

A sending off which changes the match

Unfortunately, the match took another turn when Thilo Kehrer received a very harsh second yellow card (38′). This put our side behind on the following free kick, as Kouassi’s cross was  volleyed home by Bamba (40′). Les Merlus pushed for more, and the Breton striker called Philipp Köhn into action again (42′), before he kept out an acrobatic volley by Tosin (43′).

New blood at halftime

Two substitutions were made at halftime, with the introductions of Krépin Diatta and Folarin Balogun. As in the first half, chances were slow to materialize, until Bamba’s curling effort was saved by Köhn (57′), who then saw Tosin’s tight-angled shot fly wide (58′). Monaco then regained control of the ball, but struggled to create any danger.

A debut for Pape Cabral in Ligue 1

And it was even Lorient who managed to pull further away thanks to an individual chance by Pagis (2-0, 76′). The FCL striker was also involved in a triple chance pushed back by the Monaco defense (80th), but he would finally add to the score with a curling shot under the bar (3-0, 82′). This was then the moment chosen by Adi Hütter to bring on Pape Cabral, midfielder trained at La Diagonale, for his first appearance in the top flight.

Fati saves our blushes

It was the French U19 international who had the first shot on target (88′), before Balogun missed the target (89′). The American then obtained a penalty which Ansu Fati converted, his third in Ligue 1 McDonald’s, to go joint top of the scoring charts (3-1, 98′). Next up is the Champions League, with a visit from Manchester City set for Wednesday at the Stade Louis-II (21:00).
