Tensions have begun to rise in Naples after AC Milan defeated Scott McTominay’s Napoli 2-1 at the San Siro at the weekend.

McTominay the hero

The Scotsman has developed cult status in Italy after scoring 13 goals in Napoli’s league winning campaign last year.

McTominay was also voted as the best player in Serie A and was named in the Team of the Season.

Incredibly, the Scotland international was also voted 18th in the Ballon d’Or list last week, highlighting his meteoric rise.

Kevin De Bruyne issue

Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne joined McTominay in southern Italy during the summer but all has not been smooth in the transition.

SportMediaSet have argued that the Belgian’s arrival has upset the balance of the team with the headline, “KDB is causing problems for McTominay.”

Elaborating on the problem they state that, “KDB hasn’t exactly brought out the best in the team’s play. In fact, has forced Antonio Conte to change the balance.”

They claim that “by moving McTominay wide on the left into a position on the pitch that limits his effectiveness in front of goal.”

Calciomercato have also criticised Antonio Conte’s tactical reshuffle by claiming, “there’s an issue (with De Bruyne). Both due to the substitution and the controversy, and because of his impact. His arrival negatively affected last year’s championship factor, Scott McTominay.”

De Bruyne has scored three goals in six games for the Italians but McTominay has only managed one so far this season.

There is no doubt that the Belgian is a talented addition but perhaps he has been shoehorned into the team at the expense of the former United man.

Napoli fans will hope that Conte can find a solution as there is no doubt that Italian defences have struggled with a confident and firing McTominay close to goal.
