Tariq Lamptey picks up ACL injury in second Fiorentina game | OneFootball

Former Brighton & Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has suffered a serious injury just two games into his Fiorentina career.

The former England youth international and current Ghana international joined Fiorentina for €6 million late in the transfer window and made his debut for the Serie A side in a 3-1 defeat to Napoli.

However, Lamptey lasted just 22 minutes in his first start for the club in a 2-1 home loss to Como and his club has now confirmed the extent of his injury.

"As it was a complex medical situation a diagnostic arthroscopy was then performed this morning by Dr. Mariani," the Italian side said in a medical update.

"The surgery revealed an isolated tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. However, the nature of the injury meant that anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery was required, which was a complete success.

"The player will return to Florence in the next few hours to begin his planned rehabilitation program."
