A review of the Eagles on international duty, with Skhiri’s Tunisia ending World Cup qualifying unbeaten and Bahoya’s France U21s racking up the goals once again.

Monday evening saw another raft of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. After their 4-0 home win over Luxembourg, Germany were made to work harder this time around, squeezing past Northern Ireland 1-0 in Belfast. They sit top of Group A after four games, level on points with Slovakia but with a better goal difference. Jonathan Burkardt came on for the end of the match at Windsor Park, while Robin Koch and Nathaniel Brown were unused substitutes.

Belgium are also top of their group after a 4-2 win away to Wales. Michy Batshuayi watched on from the bench as Arthur Theate started the match at the Cardiff City Stadium, before being substituted on 81 minutes.

Ellyes Skhiri’s Tunisia had already booked their ticket for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico with two qualifiers to play. They saw off Namibia 3-0 in their final match, with Skhiri featuring for 45 minutes.

Switzerland are also unbeaten in this World Cup qualifying campaign and indeed are yet to concede a goal, although they could only manage a goalless draw with Slovenia on Monday night. Sweden meanwhile lost their Group B clash with Kosovo 1-0. Neither Aurèle Amenda nor Hugo Larsson featured in those respective matches.

Bahoya’s France flying high

France’s qualifying campaign for the European Under-21 Championship is certainly running according to plan. After a 6-0 win over Faeroe Islands, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and his team-mates hit the half-dozen once again, this time against Estonia. The 20-year-old was in the starting line-up for the 6-1 victory and came off at half-time.
